I Hate My Cats (A Love Story)

This one is for those with cats in their lives.  Their odd, idiosyncratic habits simultaneously annoy, intrigue, charm and amuse you.  It’s a complex nuanced relationship.  And you wouldn’t have it any other way.  Cat lovers/haters, this one is for you.  Remembering its pages and still laughing inside as I type.  I Hate My Cats: A Love Story is clever, comical and hits all the right notes.

I Hate My Cats (A Love Story) was written by Davide Cali, illustrated by Anna Pirolli and published by Chronicle Books.  It’ll be out soon on October 2.

Beatrice Zinker, Upside Down Thinker: Incognito

“Chaos is a spy’s best friend.”

Our favorite upside down thinker is back, and this time she’s hatched a super secret plan called Operation Upside.  She and her best friend and “partner in trouble” Lenny Santos hit a few snafus on the way and have to think quick in order to save the mission.  And keep a low profile, which is a bit hard for our topsy-turvy spy. ;)  We enjoyed the original Beatrice so much that we donated a copy to Avery’s class last year and are donating another copy to the school library.  She’s one of those lovably quirky characters that kids connect with almost instantly and we can’t wait to get her second story into kids’ hands.

The Snow Lion

So excited about the US edition of this loveliest, coziest of stories.  Caro and her mum move to a new house at the top of a hill.  Caro is a little sad, lonely and reluctant to go out and explore her new environs.  But in the quiet of her house, a new friend appears just when she needs one most.  Both words and pictures are just the right amount of soft, magical and heartfelt.  If you buy one book this year, let this be it.

The Snow Lion was written by Jim Helmore, illustrated by Richard Jones and published by Peachtree.  It’ll be out on October 1.

Storm

STORM is the fourth in Sam Usher’s seasonal series about a boy, his grandad and their outings together.  It’s a red and ochre autumn day, with nice gusty winds brewing outside — perfect kite-flying weather.  The only problem is their old kite is nowhere to be found, and rummaging around the house for it seems to go on and on.  Eventually the pair sets off, eager and hopeful for an adventure…of the magical sort.  Such a fantastic series and we’ve so enjoyed and anticipated the publication of each of these titles: SNOW, RAIN, SUN, and now STORM.
