We’re partnering with Compendium to give away three copies of Tiny, Perfect Things with its gorgeous art and sentiment.  Sharing our original post of it below.

A book that revels in the small everyday wonders and treasures of life, the ones that we notice most when we’re children — “a spider’s web that caught the light,” “a flower growing through a sidewalk crack,” our shadows “holding hands” in the late, late afternoon sun.  The pale bright moon and cold air that signal that it’s time to head back home to someone waiting for us.  An exceptionally lovely book with just the right words, art and cadences to remind us to slow down and not let the awe-filled and curious wonders of life escape us.

Tiny, Perfect Things was written by M. H. Clark and illustrated by Madeline Kloepper.

This giveaway is open to US residents and ends Thursday, June 14, at 11:59 PM PT.  Head over to this Instagram post to enter.

The Story Girl and The Golden Road

The Story Girl and The Golden Road | Avery and Augustine

“I do like a road, because you can be always wondering what is at the end of it.”

We’re settling into the slowness of summer and are setting aside stacks for reading.  The Story Girl and The Golden Road by Lucy Maud Montgomery are two books of hers that we haven’t read yet.  Really looking forward to them.  What’s on deck for summer reading for you all?

The loveliest cover art by Elly MacKay and published by Tundra Books.

This month’s theme for #littlelitbookseries is cities.

If you’ve been to San Francisco, you’ll know it’s one of the most beautiful and palatable cities in the US.  So much is packed into its 47 square miles — row houses packed cheek by jowl along precipitous streets, countless fantastic restaurants just a stone’s throw away, distinctive architecture and pockets of natural beauty hidden throughout the city.  We love how Miroslav Sasek captured this ever-changing city with his witty and modern eye in This Is San Francisco.  Originally published in 1962, the edition pictured was published by Universe in 2003.  What’s everyone’s favorite spot in SF?  Some of ours are the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, Warming Hut at Crissy Field, the Ferry Building and the drive along Lincoln Blvd. in the north part of the city.

Be sure to stop by @littlelitbookseries for more books about cities throughout the month and search the hashtag #littlelitbookseries on Instagram to see what everyone else is sharing today.

We follow Vernon — whom you might remember from A Home for Bird — as he continues on his adventures with Skunk and Porcupine.  The three stories in the book, entitled “Waiting,” “Fishing” and “Gardening” are a thoughtful and sincere look at friendship and the quiet, meaningful and sometimes funny moments shared between good friends.

Vernon Is on His Way was written and illustrated by Philip C. Stead and published by Roaring Brook Press.

A Little Book Series from Compendium + Giveaway

A Little Book Series from Compendium + Giveaway | Avery and Augustine

Out today is a new series of board books for our littlest readers and their families.  They offer bright, playful illustrations and contain key words that focus on three different areas of vocabulary: feelings, opposites and actions.  The simple layouts help children engage in joint attention as parents read the books aloud.  While reading, there are also opportunities to connect the words in the books with concrete examples from children’s own lives.  And wait — just wait! — until you get turn the pages of these books.  The texture of the covers and pages are sublime and are an experience in and of themselves.  This series was written by Ruth Austin, illustrated by Kanae Sato and published by Compendium.

We’re giving away a set of all three board books:

Happy Grumpy Loved: A Little Book of Feelings

Hide Seek, Stinky Sweet: A Little Book of Opposites

Wiggle Jump Tickle: A Little Book of Actions

This giveaway is open to US residents and ends Tuesday, June 5, at 11:59 PM PDT.  To enter, head over to this Instagram post.  While you're there, scroll right to see a preview of the interior.
